CARUTH BYRD

Caruth Byrd, a 67-year-old musician and former movie producer and director, lives what most would consider a fast-paced and exciting lifestyle. He’s been on the Ed Sullivan show a handful of times and is currently developing a show for the Animal Channel. He regularly throws large parties and mingles with Hollywood’s elite at award shows. It seems that Caruth does everything he wants to, and his doctor tells him that he has the heart to do it – but this was not always the case.

Caruth had his first heart attack several years ago. When he felt it coming on, he drove from his ranch to a Dallas hospital, where his doctor told him that his heart was pumping blood at a critically low level. His ejection fraction, or the amount of blood his heart pumped per beat, was only eighteen or nineteen percent – critically low. He was advised to change his eating habits, and to immediately stop smoking and drinking.

Caruth had a second heart episode several years later. As a result, a defibrillator, which delivers electrical energy to the heart to normalize the heart rate, was implanted into his heart.

After going to Tyler-based cardiologist Dr. Peter H. Langsjoen, Caruth learned that his ejection fraction was still in the teens. He finally quit smoking, but had a third heart attack. Stents were placed in his heart to alleviate diminished blood flow, and he underwent cardiac catheterization during which a catheter was inserted into a chamber or vessel of the heart to improve blood flow in and out of the heart.

When Dr. Langsjoen put Caruth on 450 mg per day of KanekaQH™ (ubiquinol), an active form of the popular supplement Coenzyme Q10, Caruth was indifferent toward the idea. He did not notice a significant spike in his energy level at first; however, shortly thereafter, he realized that he was able to do activities that he was not previously comfortable doing. He was experiencing less shortness of breath and dizziness, which used to occur frequently.

Under Dr. Langsjoen’s care, Caruth’s heart now has an ejection fraction of nearly 60 percent – considered normal – for two years now.

Caruth is back to living the life he loves, traveling all over the world and focusing on his hobby, caring for exotic animals at his 400-acre ranch. He’s always pursued life with vigor and a sense of humor, and now that he is healthy and active again, he plans to experience many more adventures in his lifetime!

“Since going to Dr. Langsjoen, taking Kaneka QH™ and making healthier lifestyle choices, my ejection fraction has tripled. That’s an amazing result,” Caruth said. “I feel good, and I can get back to doing what I really enjoy.”
